Hurricane Irma, Maria, Harvey – Oh my! Dating back to the massive Hurricane Andrew of 1992, was anyone fully prepared? I know when Hurricane Irma was approaching the coast of Marco Island in 2017, we were nervous, uncertain and pretty scared. These feelings overwhelmed us because of the inability to know what was going to happen. The aging process is considerably similar.

Recently, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the sales and marketing team of The Terraces at Bonita Springs, along with Preferred Care Home Health Services, to construct emergency preparedness kits for the residents of Bonita Bay, a nearby gated community. The purpose of this kit was to supply the residents with materials that would be helpful in the event of a hurricane or some other type of emergency. The kits included: flashlight, batteries, candle, pen, writing pad, hand sanitizer, mask and a magnetic list of local emergency numbers. The kits were well received because it gave the residents a sense of peace of mind.

I reflected on this initiative and thought about how preparing for future events should be a crucial aspect to one’s well-being. Don’t wait for the storm to occur before putting up the shutters, right? The same should go for preparing for researching resources like home care services or making a transition into a senior living community.

Adam Corcoran is Golden Care’s Director of Business Development. Adam is familiar with the senior services industry as his mom was a Director of Nursing for a home health agency in New Jersey. He understands what it takes to deliver quality care since he was influenced at such an early age. His hard work ethic and dedication to serving southwest Florida’s aging population will be a key component of Golden Care’s long-term success.

He graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a marketing focus while obtaining an advertising Minor. In addition to the senior care industry, Adam experienced employment in the health insurance field and taught for four years in Collier County Public Schools. Through all of his experiences, it has developed him to become a well-rounded professional.

Adam spends time volunteering for local nonprofit organizations such as the Parkinson Association of Southwest Florida and Alzheimer’s Support Network. He also holds a position on the Naples Interagency Council as their President and participates on the Leadership Coalition on Aging – Collier County as the 2020 Senior Empowerment Series Co-Chair.
